Abu Dhabi

Vaikka kotiin ja arkeen onkin aina kiva palata niin etenkin pidempään odotetulta lomalta palaaminen on usein tylsempää kuin lomalle lähteminen. Tällä kertaa lomaltapaluu on takkuillut entistä pahemmin, osasyynä varmasti Pariisin kylmät ja sateiset säät mutta suurimpana syynä yksinkertaisesti koska loma oli vaan niin ihana. Abu Dhabi ylitti kaikki odotukset ja olisin valmis lähtemään vaikka heti takaisin! Valitettavasti tällä hetkellä ei kuitenkaan ole vielä uutta lomaa bookattuna,joten toistaiseksi täytyy tyytyä vain lomakuvien katseluun.

Tämä oli meille ensimmäinen kerta Abu Dhabissa, se oli pitkään to do-listalla mutta lykkääntyi aina eri syistä. Dubaissa olemme käyneet useampaan otteeseen ja vaikka siitäkin pidän, jäi Abu Dhabi nyt kyllä toistaisesti Emiraattien suosikiksi. Bookkasimme loman lopulta vähän ex tempore kun eteen sattui sopivat lentotarjoukset ja päätimme lähteä matkaan jo lokakuun alussa jolloin Abu Dhabissa on vielä aika lämpimät kelit, tänä vuonna ilmeisesti vielä lämpimämpää kuin yleensä. Ennen matkaa katselin puhelimen sää-appia kauhuissani kun lämpöasteet huitelivat lähemmäs 40 asteessa. Olinkin varma että viettäisimme suurimman osan lomasta sisätiloissa koska ulkona olisi Bébélle liian kuuma. Matkalla oli kyllä aika lämmin, yli 35 astetta pilvettömältä taivaalta lähes joka päivä mutta koska poolilla ja rannalla oli aika hyvät systeemit aurinkovarjojen kanssa, ei lämpö loppuen lopuksi meitä häirinnyt. Näin jälkikäteen sanoisinkin että lokakuu oli aika hyvä ajankohta sillä hinnat olivat vielä sesonkia edullisemmat ja hotellilla oli muutenkin paljon rauhallisempaa.  Olimme matkalla yhteensä 10 päivää ja loman loppua kohden alkoi selkeästi tulla enemmän porukkaa.

Abu Dhabissa olisi ollut todella paljon nähtävää ja reilu viikko kului nopeasti kun vietimme päivät rannalla ja altaalla, iltaisin piipahdimme tutustumassa kaupunkiin. Kuten Dubaissa, myös Abu Dhabissa kaupunkitekemiset keskittyivät aika paljon ostoskeskusten tai eri hotellien ympärille. Kävimme mm. Yas Mallissa, Marina Mallissa sekä Al Maryah Islandilla The Galleriassa ja sen viereisellä kävelypromenadilla. Yhden päivän vietimme myös Sheikki Zayedin moskeijassa joka oli juuri niin satumainen ja sanoinkuvaamattoman upea mitä voi kuvitella. Seuraavalle kerralle jäi vielä ainakin Louvre jonka olisin todella paljon halunnut nähdä mutta aika ei tällä kertaa riittänyt.

Yas Mall muistutti mielestäni eniten Dubai Mall:ia ilman kaikkea sitä viihdyke extraa, kauppoja riitti mutta laulavat suihkulähteet ja akvaariot haikaloineen puuttuivat. Yas Mall:n vieressä on kyllä Ferrari World, Formula rata sekä Warner Bros teemapuisto joissa emme käyneet, niistä varmasti löytyisi aktiviteettia ja viihdykettä sitä kaipaaville. Marina Mall:n jättäisin näin jälkikäteen ajateltuna ehkä välistä, siellä ei varsinaisesti ollut mitään erityistä, kauppakeskus oli paljon Yas Mall:ia pienempi ja vanhempi, vaikkakin Cornichen rantabulevardi oli kiva nähdä. Marina Mallista löytyi tosin keskustan toinen Shake Shack joten sekin oli ihan hyvä syy käydä piipahtamassa Marina Mallilla.

Suosikiksi jäi Al Maryah Island ja sen rantabulevardi jonne olisin mielelläni mennyt toisenkin kerran. Al Maryah Island on suhteellisen uusi alue omalla saarella Abu Dhabin keskustan kyljessä Saadiyat Islandin ja Reem Islandin vieressä. Rakentaminen on vielä kesken ja tänne on tulossa mm kokonaan uusi ostoskeskus Al Maryah Central ensi kesänä. The Galleria ja sen ulkopuolinen rantabulevardi olivat kuitenkin jo auki ja sanoisin että kaikista näkemistämme Abu Dhabin Malleista tämä oli eniten mieleeni. Menimme tänne lähinnä Magnolia Bakeryn perässä viimeisenä päivänä mutta The Gallerian kompakti koko sekä rantabulevardi olivat todella kivat ja vähän harmitti ettei oltu tultu tänne aiemmin kävelylle. Arkkitehtuurisesti Al Maryah Island on varmasti yksi Abu Dhabin hienoimpia, The Gallerian alue muistutti suorine katuineen ja korkeine pilvenpiirtäjineen mielestäni aika paljon New Yorkin Midtownia ja rantabulevardista tuli vähän Hong Kong mieleen. Rantabulevardilla on paljon kivoja hyviä ravintoloita ja The Galleria luksusliikkeineen juuri sopivan kokoinen nopeaan kiertelyyn unohtamatta tärkeintä eli niitä Magnolia Bakeryn cupcakeja!

Hotellistamme kirjoitan varmasti oman postauksen, koska hotellivalinta osui mielestäni nyt todella nappiin. Asuimme siis Saadiyat Islandilla St Regis hotellissa ja olen aika varma että tulemme vielä palaamaan tänne uudestaan. En ylensä ole isompien hotellikompleksien fani mutta tässä tapauksessa en voisi ylistää hotellia enempää. Se sopi meidän tämänhetkiseen tilanteeseen todella hyvin, Saadiyat Island oli sopivan etäällä keskustasta ja tunnelma hotellilla oli tästä syystä todella “resortmainen”. Halusimme helpon aurinkoloman ja hotelli oli yksi syy miksi päätimme ylipäätään Abu Dhabiin lähteä. Kohde osui tässä tapauksessa todella nappiin, Saadiyat Island tarjosi päivisin täydellisen lomatunnelman mutta samalla iltaisin oli helppo pistäytyä kaupungilla. Pidin myös tosi paljon siitä että Dubaihin verrattuna Abu Dhabissa oli aika paljon alueita joissa pystyi kävellä. Dubaissa on usein tuntunut ettei minnekään pääse ilman taksia ja kaikki tuntuu olevan yhden moottoritien varrella palmusaaria lukuunottamatta. Vaikka Abu Dhabissakin etäisyydet olivat myös pitkiä eikä ilman kyytiä olisi voinut liikkua, kaupunki oli silti mielestäni enemmän kaupunkimainen ja eri alueilla pystyi liikkumaan myös kävellen.

We are back from Abu Dhabi and I can’t wait to go back one day, we loved it so much! It was our first time visiting Abu Dhabi and there was a lot to see in a week, we spent one afternoon at the magical Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque but mostly enjoyed the sunny days at the beach or pool, and went to see the city after sunsets. My favourite was The Galleria on Al Maryah Island and the waterside promenade next to it. I really wanted to see the Louvre too but unfortunately there was not enough time on this vacation. We stayed at the St Regis on Saadiyat Island, I will be writing a separate post about it since I have so much I want to say about it. We loved the resort-like feel at the hotel that felt like being on a tropical island instead of a capital city. Really liked Abu Dhabi and I’m sure we’ll be going back there!
